Media Release - Newthorad Foundation

Media Release
Newthorad Foundation
22 March 2024

The Newthorad Foundation Board of Directors is pleased to announce their decision to contract CAO and Management Services with Homeland Housing due to the retirement of current CAO Julian Topolnisky. Effective May 1, 2024, Homeland Housing, through its Chief Executive Officer, Raymond Cormie, will assume the administrative and operational leadership functions of Newthorad Foundation.

Like the Newthorad Foundation, Homeland Housing is a non-profit management body that operates 900 supportive living units (lodge), seniors subsidized apartments, community affordable housing, and designated supportive living 3 and 4. Their service area includes communities in Sturgeon County, the City of St. Albert, Westlock County, and the Town of Westlock. In addition, Homeland Housing also provides management services for the Smoky Lake Foundation.

The Board decided to contract Management Services with Homeland Housing after thoughtful consideration. Considerations included attracting and retaining a qualified CAO, synergy opportunities and functional expertise available through a larger organization, and potential cost savings.

We further advise that Newthorad Foundation remains its own corporate entity. The Board is responsible for governance and setting the organization's strategic direction. In turn, Homeland Housing is operationally accountable for carrying out the Board's vision, mission, and strategic plan through its Chief Executive Officer.

The Board understands that change can be stressful and challenging. However, there will be no reductions to frontline staffing or reduction of services for residents. Managers and supervisors will contact Raymond or his team for operational and organizational support.

The Board thanks Julian for his work as CAO and wishes him the best in his retirement. Please email angela.zilinski@thorhildcounty.com or call (780) 307-5846 if you require further information.

Sincerely,
Newthorad Seniors Housing Foundation Board
