Sale of Consumer Fireworks - All retail outlets  selling consumer fireworks  within Thorhild County must have a valid annual fireworks permit.

Purchase, Possess or Discharge Consumer Fireworks - Any person may purchase, possess or discharge fireworks in Thorhild County subject to:

  • Discharge within any hamlet, country residential subdivision, or county parks is prohibited. Exceptions may be granted to authorized community organizations with the request of a fireworks permit. 
  • Must be the legal landowner of the discharge site or have written permission from the landowner.
  • Neighbours who property or livestock may be affected must be notified of the intended discharge.
  • No discharge withn 10 meters of any building, shelter or motor vehicle, 200 meters of any place where explosives or flamable liquids are stored, over a roadway, or over a road right of way.

Display Fireworks - The sale or storage of display fireworks in Thorhild County is prohibited. Only a person holding a pyrotechnical card and valid fireworks permit shall possess, handle, or discharge display fireworks in Thorhild County.

Firecrackers - Posession, sale, offer for sale, give away, or distribution or discharge of firecrackers in Thorhild County is strictly prohibited.

A water main break resulted in depressurization and potential water quality impacts. Water quality testing is ongoing. The Boil Water Advisory remains in effect. This is an Alberta Emergency Alert. Alberta RCMP have issued a Dangerous Person Alert.

An extremely dangerous man, Curtis Halliday, has multiple firearms and has already shot at multiple individuals near Grande Prairie. Curtis is 6 foot 3, caucasion with brown eyes and brown hair. He is on the run in a black 2022 Ford F-350, licence plate CMZ0105. Curtis was last known to be in the area northwest of Grande Prairie near LaGlace. Area: (This alert is in effect for northwestern Alberta, between Grande Prairie, Rycroft, and the B.C. border.)
