Municipal Planning Commission

The Municipal Planning Commission (MPC) is a body of elected members who make decisions on a number of different development decisions.  The MPC acts as Development Authority as per the Approving Authorities Bylaw.  The Municipal Planning Commission hears an application for development approval when a development is:

  • A discretionary use under the Land Use Bylaw; or
  • permitted use under the Land Use Bylaw which does not otherwise comply with the requirements and regulations as set out in the Land Use Bylaw, except where the Development Authority is authorized as per Section 4(b) of the Approving Authorities and Municipal Planning ommission Bylaw.

The Development Authority officer may forward applications for development approval to the Municipal Planning Commission for a decision even if they do not meet the above noted criteria.Decisions made by the MPC are subject to an appeal.

Applications subject to an MPC meeting are reviewed by the Planning & Development department, and a report is prepared and forwarded to the MPC in advance of the meeting for review.

Meetings are typically held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month , although dates and times are subject to change for scheduling purposes.

The next Municipal Planning Commission Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at 10:30 am.
