16th DAY OF OCTOBER, A.D., 2017, between the hours of :

9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m

Voting stations will be located at:

 

¨ DIVISION 1:Radway Agri Centre - 5108 - 51 St., Radway, Alberta

¨ DIVISION 2:Egremont Community Hall- 4904-50 St., Egremont, Albert

¨ DIVISION 3:Thorhild & District Community Hall -11 - 7th Ave., Thorhild, AB

¨ DIVISION 4 : Abee Community Hall - 5005 - 50th Ave., Abee, Alberta

¨ DIVISION 5: Newbrook Community Hall - 4801 - 50th St., Newbrook, Alberta

 

ADVANCE VOTING will take place at the following:

Friday, October 6, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Newbrook Community Hall located at 4801 – 50th St., Newbrook, Alberta

Wednesday, October 11, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Radway Agri Centre located at 5108 – 51 St., Radway, Alberta

Saturday, October 14, 2017 , from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Newthorad Seniors’ Housing Foundation (Thorhild Lodge) located at 302 – 2nd Ave, Thorhild, Alberta

All County residents may attend the advance polls if they are unable to vote on Election Day. 

In order to vote, electors must produce identification for inspection.  The identification must be one or more of:

¨ One piece of photo identification with name and address that is issued by a Canadian government (federal, provincial, local or an agency thereof)

¨ Operator/Driver’s License

¨ Government Photo Identification, or

¨ One piece of identification authorized by the Chief Electoral Officer under the Election Act with name and address as required by Section 53 of the Local Authorities Election Act.

 “Getting Informed”

 

Thorhild County is inviting the general public to attend a presentation on the question that will be asked at the upcoming October 16th General Municipal Election, relating to the possibility of having the eligible electors of Thorhild County directly electing the Reeve in future municipal elections. 

The Information Sessions will be held on:

Ø  Monday, September 18th, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at the Thorhild Community Hall in the Hamlet of Thorhild, and

Ø  Monday September 25th, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at the Newbrook Community Hall in the Hamlet of Newbrook.

The County has engaged the services of a consultant to make a presentation that will address the following areas:

1.    What are the key elements of the position of Reeve?

2.    What influence does the position have which is distinct from that of a Councillor?

3.    Can any resident be expected to campaign across the County for this distinguished position?

4.    What are the advantages and disadvantages of continuing to choose our Reeve from within Council?

5.    What are the advantages and disadvantages of electing a Reeve by vote of all citizens who are entitled to vote in a local government election?

6.    Is there a greater financial cost to any change in how the eligible electors decide this important question?

 

 Actual Question that will be asked On October 16, 2017:

The Chief Elected Official of Thorhild County also commonly referred to as the Reeve, is currently appointed among the Council Members annually, by way of a vote of Council, in accordance with the Municipal Government Act.

Are you in favour of allowing the eligible electors of Thorhild County to directly elect the Reeve, during all future general municipal elections?

Yes____    

No  ____

If yes, should the existing municipal electoral boundaries be changed:

a) To elect four (4) councillors for a total council of five (5) members - a Reeve and four (4) Councillors?

b) To elect six (6) councillors for a total council of seven (7) members - a Reeve and six (6) Councillors?
