Position Summary

 

Key Responsibilities

Thorhild County Public Works Department is seeking a suitable individual to carry out the following duties under the direction and supervision of the Fleet Working Foreman:

  • Use logic and deductive reasoning in diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing and maintenance on all heavy equipment/trucks, trailers, light duty trucks, fire equipment, and agricultural equipment.
  • Assist in all duties as directed.
  • Must participate in the on-call schedule on a rotational basis.
Required Qualifications
  • Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician Certificate.
  • Standard First Aid or willing to obtain.
  • Physical ability and dexterity to perform a variety of manual tasks (heavy lifting, squatting, bending, twisting and climbing. Work is performed with exposure to the outdoor elements.
  • Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Excellent customer service, communication and organizational skills, with the ability to comprehend and communicate detailed instructions orally and in writing are essential.
  • Experience in operating various power and hand tools and various heavy equipment.
  • Successful candidate will be required to provide a Criminal Records Check, Driver’s Abstract and Fitness to Work Assessment.
Additional Information

This position is included within the scope of the County’s unionized setting (IUOE Local 955) and is based on five eight (8) hour workdays. Hourly pay range for this position is $38.37-$46.04. Current employees of Thorhild County fulfilling the requirements essential to this position shall be considered.

This is an Alberta Emergency Alert. The MD of Opportunity has updated the wildfire alert.

The MD of Opportunity has rescinded the Evacuation Order due to SWF092, as the fire poses no immediate threat to the residents at this time. However, a 2 hour Evacuation Alert (be prepared to evacuate with two hours' notice) remains in place for all those in the vicinity of the fire. Area: (The Evacuation Order is no longer in effect for Red Earth Creek.)

Loon River First Nation has rescinded the Evacuation Order due to the Red Earth Complex Fire, as the fire poses no immediate threat to residents, at this time. However, a 2 hour Evacuation Alert remains in place for all those in the vicinity of the fire, and residents should remain prepared should conditions change.
