 Localized Flooding Notice : Localized flooding is possible throughout Thorhild County. Residents are encouraged to monitor conditions, avoid flooded areas, and never drive through standing water. Stay informed and follow County updates as conditions change.
 Report blocked culverts, damaged roadways, or other emergent County problems through Public Works at 780-398-3977. For life threatening emergencies always call 911.

Economic Development in Thorhild County: Forging Strategies for the Future

Thorhild County is proud to announce the launch of a new initiative aimed at fostering comprehensive economic development to strengthen the vibrancy and resilience of our regional economy. This initiative takes a holistic approach to economic growth by supporting existing businesses, attracting new investment, encouraging entrepreneurship, and facilitating collaboration among community groups. By addressing both immediate challenges and long-term opportunities, Thorhild County seeks to create a sustainable and diversified economic foundation that benefits all sectors of the community

The Economic Development initiative will be rolled out over the next two years, and its foundation is built on direct engagement with local businesses, residents, service providers, community groups, local government officials, and other key stakeholders. The County is working with Lochaven Consulting, who will work closely with citizens, business owners, industry stakeholders, and regional partners over the coming months to build an Economic Development strategy aligned to the specific needs and context of Thorhild County.

Our key focus areas include:

  1. Empowering Local Businesses: Supporting existing businesses to overcome challenges and reach their full potential.
  2. Encouraging and Growing Entrepreneurs: Providing essential resources and mentorship to help new ventures succeed and flourish.
  3. Attracting New Investments: Bringing fresh opportunities, business growth, and long-term economic vitality to Thorhild County

“We are excited to launch this initiative and take a proactive approach to supporting our local economy,” said Carol Revega, Director of County Services for Thorhild County.

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms which may produce a tornado. Funnel clouds in this area have been reported to be very close to the ground. It is possible that funnel clouds may touch the ground and become a brief landspout tornado. The risk of landspout tornadoes will last until early this evening. ### Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. At 7:26 p.m. MDT, an extremely dangerous thunderstorm is located near Barnwell. This extremely dangerous thunderstorm is moving east at 45 km/h. Damaging wind gusts, baseball size or greater hail and heavy rain are possible. Locations and nearby areas that could be impacted include: Barnwell, Wrentham, Skiff ### Driving conditions will be difficult. Buildings and/or many trees will be destroyed. Large hail will cause significant damage and injury. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are expected to produce damaging hail, wind or rain. Severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Area: (Co. of Lethbridge near Coaldale, M.D. of Taber near Taber and Barnwell, M.D. of Taber near Grassy Lake and Hwys 877 and 513, Co. of Warner near Wrentham, Co. of Forty Mile near Skiff, new active threat area, continued active threat area)

At 5:02 p.m. MDT, an extremely dangerous thunderstorm is located over Claresholm. This extremely dangerous thunderstorm is moving southeast at 50 km/h. Damaging wind gusts, baseball size or greater hail and heavy rain are possible. Locations and nearby areas that could be impacted include: Claresholm, Nobleford, Monarch ### Driving conditions will be difficult. Buildings and/or many trees will be destroyed. Large hail will cause significant damage and injury. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are expected to produce damaging hail, wind or rain.
