Waste Management of Canada Corp. Commits to Double Synthetic Liner

During the August 26, 2025, Regular Council meeting, Thorhild County Council made the following statement:

Thorhild County Council would like to thank Waste Management of Canada Corporation for being responsive to the community’s concerns and withdrawing their request for a single liner in development permit application DP24-2670, which can be viewed on the Thorhild County website in the August 26, 2025 Amended Agenda Package.

This decision demonstrates a continued commitment to environmental stewardship and to working collaboratively with residents and municipal leaders. Waste Management has chosen to continue using double liners at the Thorhild Landfill, reaffirming their dedication to protecting groundwater, land, and the long-term health of our community.

Thorhild County Council looks forward to a continued partnership as this project advances, ensuring it reflects both sustainable practices and the values of the people who live here and future generations.

In addition to the statement, Council made the following motion:
Moved by Deputy Reeve Trevor Dafoe that Council approves Waste Management of Canada Corporation Development Permit Application DP24-2670 with Schedule “A” to amend the existing Development Permit, dated July 14, 2011. CARRIED

The development permit can be viewed on page 327 at -2025-08-26-Council-Agenda-as-Amended.pdf
