Position Summary

Journeyperson Preferred or Minimum 3rd Year Apprentice

Key Responsibilities

Thorhild County Public Works Department is seeking a suitable individual to carry out the following duties under the direction and supervision of the Fleet Manager:

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment, trucks, fire equipment, agricultural equipment, and trailers
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, and engine related issues
  • Perform Commercial Vehicle inspections and ensure all equipment meets safety and regulatory requirements
  • Inspect equipment and identify maintenance requirement proactively
  • Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and repair documentation
  • Assist in all duties as directed.
  • Must participate in the on-call schedule on a rotational basis.
Required Qualifications
  • Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician Certificate preferred or minimum 3rd Year Apprentice.
  • Valid Alberta CVIP Inspection License
  • Standard First Aid or willing to obtain.
  • Physical ability and dexterity to perform a variety of manual tasks (heavy lifting, squatting, bending, twisting and climbing. Work may be performed with exposure to the outdoor elements.
  • Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Experience in operating various power and hand tools and various heavy equipment.
  • Successful candidate will be required to provide a Criminal Records Check, Driver’s Abstract and Fitness to Work Assessment.
Additional Information

This position is included within the scope of the County’s unionized setting (IUOE Local 955) and is based on a 32-hour work week. Hourly rate range for this position is dependent on certification or period completed ($39.14-$46.96). Applicable apprentice percentage of journeyman rate applies. Thorhild County also has a comprehensive benefits program. Current employees of Thorhild County fulfilling the requirements essential to this position shall be considered for this position.

Overland flooding has taken place and water is still moving through many areas across the entire County as a result of the recent multiple rain events. Roads continue to be impacted and damage assessments are ongoing. Crews are working to clear culverts, placing signage, addressing road conditions that will continue for the coming days.
