Health Advisory
Alberta Health Services has issued a health advisory for Long Lake Provincial Park and Hamlet, effective August 18, 2026, due to the presence of cyanobacterial (blue-green algal) blooms and/or toxins in the lake water. Residents and visitors are advised to take the following precautions:
- Do not swim or wade in areas where blooms are visible.
- Avoid contact with blooms in the water or along the shoreline. If contact occurs, wash with clean water.
- Do not drink or cook with water from the lake.
- Do not eat whole fish or fish trimmings, as toxins may be stored in the liver. Fish fillets contain fewer toxins and are considered safer to eat.
- Keep pets away from areas where blooms are visible and prevent them from drinking lake water.
If you become ill after contact with lake water, contact Health Link at 811. Please refer to the Alberta Health Services advisory for additional information and precautions. https://www.albertaparks.ca/parks/north/long-lake-pp/
