Welcome to Halfmoon Lake Campground!  

1. Open for the Season

Welcome to Halfmoon Lake Campground, located on the shore of Halfmoon Lake in Thorhild County. Visitors can enjoy a picturesque lakeside setting, swimming area, playground, boat launch and other recreational amenities.

Halfmoon Lake Campground is open annually from May 15 to September 30. The campground gates are locked from October 1 to May 15.

2. Hours & Public Access

Day-use and boat launch access is available daily from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. during the operating season. Fees apply. Please note that all campsites are seasonal. There are no overnight or short-term campsites available.

3. Camping & Day Use

All campsites at Halfmoon Lake Campground are seasonal sites and are reserved in advance for the entire camping season. Day-use visitors are welcome to enjoy the public areas of the park and boat launch during operating hours.

4. Day-Use & Boat Launch Fees
  • Day Use: $10/vehicle/day
  • Annual Day Use: $50/vehicle/season
  • Day Use with Boat Launch: $20/day
  • Annual Day Use with Boat Launch: $100/season

5. Park Rules
  • Dogs: Dogs are only permitted within designated seasonal campsites and must belong to the registered seasonal site holder. Dogs must also be registered with Thorhild County. Guests of seasonal site holders and day-use visitors are not permitted to bring dogs into the park.
  • Children: Children under 16 must be supervised by an adult.
  • Alcohol: Alcohol is permitted only within designated seasonal campsites. Alcohol may not be consumed in public areas of the park.
  • Boating: A Pleasure Craft Operator Card is required to operate a power-driven boat or watercraft in Canada.

7. Seasonal Campsites

All sites have been reserved for the 2026 Season.  The cost for seasonal sites is $2,000/site/season (includes GST).  Each site has power and contains a fire pit and picnic table, and fee includes day use and boat launch fees.  A $250 damage deposit must also be paid. 

There will also be available to those with seasonal rental 3 storage spaces in a compound for a cost of $200/site/season (includes GST) and must be applied for at the time as seasonal site.

8. Seasonal Site Application Process
  • County residents may apply from January 15 to January 31 pending site availability, Non-County residents starting Febraury 1.  
  • Click here for the application.  Site holders must enter into a Site Agreement with the County.

  • Sites will be issued on a first come first served basis.

10. Directions

From Thorhild via Opal Road:
Travel 6 km west of Thorhild on Highway 18. Turn south onto Opal Road and travel 9 km. Turn west onto Township Road 590 and continue for approximately 8 km. The campground will be on the south side of the road.

From Thorhild via Range Road 232:
Travel 14 km west of Thorhild on Highway 18. Turn south onto Range Road 232 and continue for approximately 12 km.

From Bon Accord:
Travel approximately 29 km north on Lily Lake Road, then travel 3 km east to the campground.

11. Winter Access & Ice Fishing

There is no public access to Halfmoon Lake through the campground for ice fishing during the off-season. As recommended by the County's insurance provider, the campground gates remain locked from October 1 to May 15.
