Thorhild County is located approximately 90 kilometres north of the City of Edmonton. It is bordered by the counties of Sturgeon, Westlock, Athabasca, and Smoky Lake. Highway 63, the gateway to the extremely active Fort McMurray region, is very easily accessed from this municipality. Also, Alberta’s Industrial Heartland is nearby – within a 45 minute drive. Incorporated in 1955, Thorhild County is a primarily rural municipality encompassing 2000 square kilometres. As of the 2016 census, the County’s population is 3254 with 1973 dwelling units. The hamlets of Abee, Egremont, Long Lake, Newbrook, Opal, Radway, and Thorhild are located within the municipality.
