Family & Community Support Services

FCSS provides support to the community by offering services and
programs for children, families, seniors and volunteers, which enrich
the well-being of community and family life.

Local Programs and Services Include:

- Information, assistance and referrals for community members
regarding family
support, Food Bank, Christmas hampers
- Medical and emergency services
- Services for Seniors – general programs, information, assistance
and referral
- Program support – Rural Women’s Conference, Babysitter Safety,
and personal wellness
- Support to Thorhild Lodge for Senior’s Life Enhancement program

Family School Liaison Program

The Family School Liaison Program provides support services to
children and their families to strengthen and stabilize school, family
and community life.

Services offered include:

- Liaise between school personnel and families
- Information and resource material
- Individual and family counseling
- Education workshops
- Referral to other agencies

Family Outreach -Diversion/Early Childhood Development Program

The Family Outreach Program provides diversion and early childhood
development services to families in need of support and/or information.
The goal of the program is to improve family functioning and well-being
by working together with families, agencies and the community.

Services include:

- One-on-one support
- Parent groups – Moms & Tots/Time Out for Parents
- Parenting skill enhancement (workshops and resource library)
- Assistance with access and co-ordination of services with other agencies
- Infant car seat rental/childproofing kits

Community Adult Learning

The Thorhild & District Community Adult Learning/InterAgency Council is
committed to providing learning opportunities for adult learners.Interested
individuals or organizations are welcome to attend council/interagency meetings,
which provide an opportunity to share ideas/information concerning issues,
programs and services.

Secondary information and referralsThe Council is also committed to
providing Seniors Outreach opportunities for seniors in the County of Thorhild.

Outreach priorities include:

- Connecting with seniors to increase social and physical interaction
- Reducing barriers that prevent social interaction
- Working with community seniors and service providers
- Providing programs and services based on community needs including
annual Seniors Week activities, Seniors Conference, Exercise programs, etc.
- Promote County based senior facilities & their activities
– i.e. Newthorad Seniors Housing and Newbrook, Radway and Thorhild
